Need some help on rectifying problem

Need some help in rectifying this problem:

Recently my 2 yellow frags (Diff species from 2 diff owners) died off at the same time

I had them for a long time.

Sequence of die off:

(1) changed to a darker yellow almost brown (polys open), purple tips not affected

(2) patches of different shades of brown/ yellow appear over whole body (polys

open) purple tips not affected

(3) acro dies (no polys little skin) purple tips faded

In 1st pic (Acro frag 1), you can still clearly see the purple tips. and open polys at the top portion

any tissue blow off problem?

did you dip your new sps into some lugols solution before

introduce into the tank~~

it is better to do that whether you get it from someone else

or from a shop or watever~~ because we never know

waht parasites they carry~~

For me~~ i dose every sps i brought into the solution~~

not 100 percent proof~~ but it is better to be safe then sorry

Some Sps also cant take sudden Strong light~~ so is best

to introduce into the tank with your actinic blue on first

before turning on your Mh light ~~ :o

Erm, no tissues blown of or anything

They have been in my tank for 3-4mths already ;)

Can't be any new parasites as they're not new, and no new additions for just over a mth <_<

any others?

Did any changes recently? Like change of lighting? The light might be losing its intensity which is why the yellow ones turned brown? Yellow acros demand very intense light to retain their colouration.

Change of bioload? Change of salt mix? Change of additives? Change of water? I learnt that some brands of anti-chlorine if overdosed even slightly will kill yamato shrimp and cause fish to slough their protective slime coat :off: . Now no choice have to add anti-chlorine cause of chloramine in newater ? Untreated NEWATER is DEADLY WATER to fish and inverts.

Just some things you could think about.

Always something more important than fish.

Thanks for the freshwater info

But the only think i can think of tt i changed is only my salt water mix...

Used to use TM , now using TM pro reef.. But i did a water change abt 1-2 weeks back.... ;)

These guys changed just 2-3 days ago

My lights still less then 6mths ;) Suppose to change every 8 - 12mths right? My purples, lime greens and blues still doing well :pinch:

Thank you for those who contributed :thanks:

anymore possibilities?? It's not parasites right?

I believe your SPS gone STN.

And it's over the periods of 1 week ?

I'd same problem b4

top portion of SPS polys are opening nicely while bottom part gone patch by patch.

No Tissue flying ( cause STN, otherwise RTN ).

it's due to

1. I touch a lot , keep moving here and there one week before STN

2. PH is blowing almost direct to SPS.

All my water parameters and temp were stable that time. Nothing was change, only 2 things that I did.

So...

Life is like a peice of Uncured Live Rock [ from LFS ], you never know what you gonna get.........

======> Erm... I seldom touch my sps... I try my best even not to put my hand into the water.... ;)

Last scaping is almost 1.5 mths back

I never shift them after the scape. They were doing very very well then... then last few days KO on me

======> If PH blow directly, will be gone in a week.... y wait so long?!?!? Anyway, there is no direct PH blowing.. :pinch:

this is giving me a nervous breakdown.... I can't point out the cause...

But I'll try shifting them tomorrow to a less turbulant area, w/o touch their body... fingers crossed :pinch:

Keep us updated.

Since we don't know what the cause.

Talked to a fellow reefer who happen to have a similar past experience

Possible reason:

(1) Water stripped of nutrients

As I'm running carbon and rowa, my dosing may not be enough to replace the nutrients being skimmed out or absored by the rowa and carbon <_<

Will be testing 2 methods:

(1) replace carbon every 3 -4 wks instead of every 2 wks

(2) use even less carbon and change every 2 weeks

Rowa: - usage no change

Hopefully my 2 sickyl acros can last tt long.... :pinch:

Stop dosing trace elements, you might have some buildup of certain type of trace elements. I had this problem before when i dose trace elements, have since stop and the problem has not occur. Reduce the dosage of amino acids as well to half and monitor again.
