for ur skimmer, u shld be able to see thick whitish bubbles covering the reaction chamble, and not those fine ones.. try bringing up the pump nearer to the water surface.

Sam, its strange, even if skimmer is new, it will should have bubbles (i mean fine bubbles which in this case not in yrs)... it will then kick off later... to me it seems u dont have bubbles so no skimmate leh...... for Macro, the tip of the outlet (the cup) is very close the cover so some how it will be 'jam' by skimmate ... what u can do is to diy something to extend the cup to make its tip further away from the cover ... or is yr pump not unrated to run yr skimmer?

Actually I tried what aStRoBo| said and he was right...the skimmer pump should be nearer to the surface.

According to the instruction, it recommended the pump to be placed within 10 cm from the water surface. I tried it and the bubbles all started to foam....
