Need A Littel Advice

My 3 ft tank is in the 3rd-4th week of cycling.. added 6kg LR last week and another 6kg yesterday..

no fishes yet.. only 2 turbo snail and a brittle worm..

somehow.. sand bed have brown algae with bubble on it

Is this normal during the cycling process???

My lighting is 2 x 36w PL 10k- (2pm-1015pm)

and 2 x 36w PL actinic blue (from 1015pm - 2am)

just added SeaChem Phosguard brought from Sea Life this afternoon

any advice???

IME it's normal for a new tank to have Diatoms.

Learn to appreciate the diatoms. If not just put 2 turbos in there and let them eat the poor helpless diatoms.

bro.. the thing is the snails are not eating them.. they just spent the whole day laying motionlessly on my LR

I think they should be active after lights off. My snails are parading my tank now when the light is off. Two of them keep following one another. LoLx.

When choosing Turbo snails...I always choose those sticking to the sides of the tank. I never choose those lying on the floor of the tank. Reason? If they have the strength to adhere to the sides of the tank they should be healthy.

sometimes i leave my actinic blue thruout the night till the next morning.. and i switch it off before i go to work....

Can kill your diatoms or maybe cyno by a 3 day complete lights off to your system. Since you're only cycling, you don't need to switch on the lights at all.

having nuisance algae in cycling period is ok .... In marine, they are just part and puzzle

The diatoms are there because of the silicate and phosphate... can use phosguard to help control it. IF not, introducing macro algae like grape algae do helps too.

I introduce grape algae(not too sure abt the name ...) and it helps to control the diatoms by taking in the phosphate.

diatoms are part and parcel of a new tank...and even for some slighterly older tanks...just need some time for your reef to stabilize itself..and if everything is right, they should go off soon..just my personal experience, if your snails remain in the same spot on the sand bed or rocks for 2 days..u should go remove them from the water and check them out...had oone that died last time..stinked like crazy....

Never read properly. Cyano? So fast? That's why the snails don't bother.

its brown with bubbles yesterday.. today after putting the seachem phosguard..

the bubbles disappear but brown stain still there

Hmmm...my turbos love the diatoms on my glass ley. Now my glass walls are almost sparkling clean. Even the sand too.

Anyway..when my tank was 1-2 months old..still had algae bloom. Had those string-like hair algae that would float up by the pulling of the bubbles that they produced via photosysnthesis. Looked like floating riccia (freshwater plant). Anyway..used to manually harvest them. And they did smell nice to me. Have'nt tried eating them though. Oh well...After another month things kinda settled down. No more hair algae..hardly any diatoms..and very nice coralline algae.
