Hey guys, I am thinking of placing my return pump as well as my chiller pump out of the sump.

I am looking into ehiem and resun md.

Are these two kinds of pump noisy when use out of water?

What is the longest period of time you guys have used b4 these products generate sound?

 I am using both.... NO soung from either

Just properly position them with a sponge / dense foam under them to reduce vibrations

Hey guys, I am thinking of placing my return pump as well as my chiller pump out of the sump.

Can I find out how you intend to place the pump outside the sump? I'm also thinking of placing my pump externally, but my sump is not drilled. So don;t know how to connect the piping! :erm:

Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be, be one.

I use ehiem 1250 for my returm pump

so far no compliant. Can use as external pump but i prefer put in the sump.

return pump is one of the equipment so be last long enough as one of the tank equipment so source for one you can rest assure dun give you problem easily.

should have others reliable brand beside ehiem. Also cosider headloss when sourcing for return pump.

cheers

what do u guys think? wld md 55 fit e bill? or juz ehiem 1262?

rio solid brand man

but i dun tink can be used externally

i jus tink resun mds are power suckers

md55 is i tink 115W and if u on 24hrs, a month it'll cost u $13 of elec bill...very high in my opinion

if i were u, i'd look into wat flowrate i wan then gif priority to eheim.

if no such model of eheim can provide the required flow then go for resun md.

u wan eheim go to petm*rt....u wan resun md go to *qu*m*rin

eheim is a reputable brand that can be used externally too but takes up less power so do gif eheim a thought

hm...i've neve come across resun model larger than the md55...and i'm pretty sure there aren't bigger ones

anione care to confirm this?

Go for Eheim as the chiller pump & route the chiller outlet to your main tank (act as a low flow return as well) cos you can't afford a break down..........After that, get a cheaper but high flowrate pump (eg. Rio hyperflow 20/26/32HF) to act as your main return.

If you can make a T-joint from both pumps and connect them together with a ball valve in between even better (keep the ball valve slight crack open) . If the Ehiem fails (very unlikely), you still get some flow from the Rio pump to your chiller. This will keep the tank temp. in check.
