juz curious what sps keepers keep for fishes.

i used to keep tangs and some time back, itchy backside... went to get acro gobies. darn ah beng recommended one brownish black goby and this fella keep nibbling on sps. one by one the sps rtn but i was unable to catch it out. lived with this fella until tonite when i was watching sg idol finals, it went nibbling on my largest sps colony. went for a closer look and arghh it is going rtn! decide to take action. now 4 hours later, the fish is caught and yeah i got rid of it humanely

why 4 hours? make a guess :(

no more fishes for me, ever, except for cleaners!

RAV-65, 4 hours because:

a. take out ALL corals

b. take out ALL lr

c. put in ph with filter to clear the water

d. find the pesky fish, which was hiding in a corner but hard to see due to less than ideal water clarity

e. put back lr

f. put back corals

g. run tank with extra cotton wool at sump to catch all those stirred up detrius

h. wash balcony > that where my tank is and where i placed some lr cos the 4 pails i had could not hold all of them

i. mop floor

j. bathe

k. post this thread

never ever will i risk my tank with other fishes unless 100% proven to be safe.

DB, thats a kind of blenny. i have 2 diff blennies and both eat algae like pigs although they can be quite stupid to end up in my sump the other day.

sorry, read wrongly...thought i read blenny. I used to have a goby almost similar to the one you posted....think the lemon coloured ones (no stripes) .... got rid of it as it nipped on the mantle of my clams

Yep..clown gobies will nip on acros. Used to keep one with my acros. Noticed my acro polyps never extended much during the day. The bugger kept nipping on them playfully as if they were worms. Never really caused rtn of my acros. Only problem is with stressed newly introduced acros. You can literally see the tissue gone in hours due to nipping of the clown goby. Established acropora seem to be able to withstand such abuse.

Always something more important than fish.

fuel, mine is opposite. those mother colonies tend to rtn immediately cos maybe they are too stable in my tank and not used to nips. however, the goby tend to nip one colony at a time and once left skeleton only, it will move on to the next one, with a couple of days break in between. dunno what makes it nip the acro... hunger??? but i checked both my gobies, eating and looking fat so i concluded they are juz out to play >>> im so pleased with myself for getting rid of them.

juz saw the reply sorry

sorry need some more confirmation ..p_71055.jpg this guy not safe with acro ...??

he is only 2cm can't catch can't bear to kill leh ... :( but how har ...

I have 2 now, they are acro safe as far as i am concern.

But for those yellow crown goby is definitely not safe. I had 2 previously and keep nipping my acro until i caught it easilly. Put it inside my sump and gave away.
