Hi all,

For those who have visited LCK, would have noticed the rotating sprinkler system for water overflowing to the sump.

Any idea how it was done ? Is it motorized ?

LimPC

IMO , that system will get clogged up easily n need regular cleaning of the rain bar .... :( not really a good idea

hmmm actually my tank has that rotating thing as well... because i bought my tank from there!!! it actually spreads the water out well over the bio-balls but i had to put a sponge under the sprinker above the bio-balls... nitrite juzt won't fall! and believe it, i've not cleaned the rain-bar since i bought the tank abt 7mths ago... if it gets chocked somehow, it will just stop rotating..

nitrite or nitrate?

Yeah! Nitrite or Nitrate. It seems like Nitrate to me. If nitrite do not fall, then the biological filter is not working well.

If it nitrate which is the breakdown of nitrite, which is due to a good bioloigcal filter, then we have to figure if it is because of the bio-balls.

Some folk do not advocate bio-balls as it increase the nitrate instead. What do the rest of us think ?

nitrate most likely,

like i said lor, its a very impressive wet dry,

but if i'm not wrong that set up has a denitrator

ans a calcium reactor unit.

if you get the wet dry alone,

nitrates will be a problem.

think his denitrator is not working ... the last time i was there ... Bac was still trying to get it to work :P

no it was nitrite... after i added filter woll over the bioballs to reduce the amt of detrius falling on the LR, the nitrite became undetectable and nitrate dropped from abt 100ppm to 25ppm where it's hanging up till now! cannot blame my de-nitrator lar <_< i just added it after abt 4 mths of seeing the nitrate at 25ppm.. haven't tested my nitrate in like 2 weeks actually :P

hmmm the rainbar works on the water flow... when water flows thru it, it will spin. some science thing.. Centripetal Force or something like that if i remember correctly.. the water will flow and reach the END of the rainbar and the force will cause it to spin.. HOWEVER if the water flow is not strong enough, it won't reach the end of the rainbar so the rainbar won't spin..

hmm... thot they hav a prefilter section at the overflow where u can put filter wool to physically remove detritus?

:off:

anyway, think wet/dry not good... cos will hav lotsa nitrate.... me having nitrate problems oso... cos initially using bio-balls (now regret) then tried to replace with coral chips.... which proved.... SIMILAR EFFECT.... so now... think i hav to slowly phase out everthing.... then convert the sump into a refuguim.... hope this realli helps.... :nuke:
