What These Transparent Spiky 'needles'?

Hey...need info on this...

Forgot to switch on the equipment for a small new tank that I was preparing.

There was some liverocks in them and some white mucus had formed on them.

Took them out to wash and was pricked by many,(I really meant) many small shiny 'needles' which was around half a centimetre each. Some hard and some soft...

They really stuck onto my fingers and I have to pull them out with tweezers...

Fingers felt itchy and warm after that. A few hours later after putting antiseptic cream and thought all was well...the warmth developed again. :cry2:

Questions :

1) What would they be?

2) How they derive?

3) Any ways to eliminate it from the rocks?

4) Detrimental factors?

Advice pls...Thanks

saw a couple but they are the small ones. was looking for big ones though...so hypothesis is that they may not be the cause...

Upon observation, the rocks are still having them even after I have dried them under the sun.

They are sting left by bristle worm... There is nothing much you can do about it, just make sure that you slowly remove them one by one.... I remove them by using tape to stick them out

they are bristles from your friendly neighbourhood bristle worms.

so its advisable to wear gloves when handling rocks...

another reefer thought me this method to get rid of them,

just run your bristled hand through your hair...

both hand and hair should be dry.

it works for me! ;)

nothig bad about it except that it HURTS!!!

and its bloody irritating <_<

well..

if you like pain, sure. :P

try the hair method,

i didn't believe till i tried it.

its an old method pass down from the older generation.

Back when my family had a sugarcane plantation behind my house in Johor.

we always go and cut the sugarcane to eat.

The sugarcane also has these needle like thorns and like the bristleworm's, can be painful.

my grandma always tells us to just rub our hand against our hair.

true enuff...all gone.

Tried & tested method.
