Can I off my lighting for a week?

Hi all,

I'm planning to go for holidays for a week and I'm thinking of off my lighting for a week, reason:

Currently using fan and high evaporation rate, if without light will cut down the evaporation rate as I need to top up water very frequently. Also worried the water dry out in the sump and my return pump will burn out.

I have a few LPS only like elegance, roti prata :P, gonipora and few mushies! :)

Will that be a problem without light?

Can I also turn off my return pump only running with my Seio?

:thanks::thanks::thanks:

Thanks Bro,

I think it will work as only a week. I'm more concern of the pump due to overheat if water level fall as it might even cause fire!! :o

My advice: tompang all ur precious corals wif a reefer u trust. leave it as a FOWLR for 1 week. feeding on an auto feeder. this way, u dun even hv to switch on ur lights for a week will do ok. else, get someone to go over to ur place.

dun leave things to chance. Murphy knocks anytime of the day, anywhere, esp when there is no one at home. :angry:

juz me 2 cents.

don't think the sump will dry out in a week... unless your sump is very very small... what u can do is to switch off the fan which will very much decrease the evaporation rate. Whatrs the temperature of your tank with the lights on without the fan? If its too high.. maybe just switch on the lights for 4hrs or so... and also drip as much water as you can....

I think thats the best u can do other then having a tubby or someone to top up water for u
