For those who have/had marine and planted tank....

which is honestly easier to maintain? in terms of time, setup and equipment cost?

Need to know... cause my wifey ask me if I want to consider planted tank rather than marine.... is she hinting?

With all the new furniture in, she still pretty concern whether salt "vapour" will affect furniture and new paint....

Bro, here's my humble opinion.

Pricewise planted tank cost less than a marine setup. What tank size are we talking here? I can give a list of the equipment you need should you want to start one. There are a few local forum too that I can recommend for you to read up info.

planted will cost less in terms of equipment and electrical bill.

main equipment are:

1. CO2 cyclinder + Solenoid (electircal) and difussor of some sort. ext. difussor recommended tho.

2. most pple use a canister filter. cant rem y. is better for planted tho.

3. lights. not as strong as marine. ard 3W per gallon will do. have to take into acct of how deep your tank is tho.

4. Fertilizers. liquid (macros and mircos)and base fert. Dennerle is recommended. but is pricy.

thats all i can rem for now.

planted is not cheap if u wanna do the pro way, ie mostly denerle products. if u use cheap fert, etc u end up with more problems later.

one thing about planted... if u think ur marine tank got algae problem, u haven experience planted yet. hahaha but seriously, it is still cheaper than marine and easier to maintain, not to mention fresh water so dipping ur hand etc is more pleasant and no worries about sticky floor due to salt water.
