rescaping/ transfering of ls and lr

hi gangs, give you all a true scenario and hope you guys can tell me what went wrong.

all these years of marine keeping, i did a rescaping and transfering of ls,lr,sandbed once each.during these 2 projects, almost all ls gasping and dead the next day.so during my 3rd project i no choice but gave away all ls.

my curiosity is why it happens? are doing these create an old tank sindrome? i need to know cause thinking of upgrading my tank.

Would it be a lack of air(oxygen) in the new environment?

Or maybe there is a sudden change in the amount of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria in the new temporary storage environment when the rescaping is done??

did an experiment.. when i moved my SB (dug deeper into 6" SB), nitrate shot sky high.

So in this case it could be that nitrate is too high.

when you disturb your DSB,

trapped substances like years of detritus buildup

and hydrogen sulphide are released into the water column.

while doing a transfer,

there will be a short cycling period in the new tank.

you would want to keep your livestock in a seperate place for

a whle when you transfer your LR and sand.

test your water parems in the new tank before adding your

LS/corals...pref one at a time, as the new tank wll take

time to mature and acclimatize to the new bioload
