A UV sterilizer only targets different organisms at different flowrates

And fishes do not consume phyto but some corals and pods does!

Actually, it kills different stuff with different flowrates

Beneficial bacteria do not suspend in the water column but colonise on substrate and rocks

UV or Ultraviolet light is the name given to the light waves that fall between X-Rays and visible ight rays in the electromagnetic spectrum which is invisible to the human eye.

UV light is produced by a low pressure mercury lamp which allows the light rays to a specific length (for different tank capacity) with an optimum "strenght" within the germicidal region which will kill any micro organism it is exposed to.

Also when these micro organism are exposed to the UV light, the UV will "change" their chemical bonds resulting in their death. It is proven that UV Sterilization can "kills" and control bacteria, parasites, hazardous mico organism, etc. in marine aquariums, freshwater or planted tanks.

Also, UV Sterilizer will not adversely affect the fish or beneficial nitrifying bacteria and algae attached to the sand bed and tank walls or in your filteration system.

personally i would suggest you got for the coralife 12x. anything less and you might as well save your money, it won't be as effective in combating parasites (which are hardier than bacteria). adjust to the flowrate recommended for parasites and you will kill harmful bacteria too, but note that this flowrate tends to be quite low so might take a while to process all the water in your tank.

Be teachable always, nobody has a monopoly on wisdom. But learn to distinguish "fact" from "opinion".

Fyi, Coralife UV Sterilizer can support tank volume capacity as follows:

1) 3X 9W = 473 litres

2) 6X 18W = 948 litres

3) 12X 36W = 1895 litres

Also, do you know how much does a 36W replacement tube cost?

Here's mine in action. Not sure useful or not, I should say it's just prevent better than cure.
