Mandarin died...

Recommended Posts

Just bought my mandarin yesterday and this morning I found that it has died... :cry2:

So sad....

What happened?

Can someone tell me?

I tested my water before putting it in and everything was fine...

My other 2 fishes are also still alive... one is a fire goby and the other a zebra cardinal...

Could the zebra have atttacked it??

how mature is ur tank? if ur tank is relatively new, ur mandarin most probably starved due to a lack of food source (copepods).

do u have enuf LR for him to hide?

How much LR is enuf? Mine is a 2ft tank....wf abt 10kg of LR...

did u acclimate b4 u intro him in?

Didn't acclimate...could it have been sick aldy?

is the one u bought has a slim body?(prolly has been w/o food for few days in a tank)

How to tell if it's got a slim body? Didn't really notice...

where u buy ur fish?

bought frm coralfarm @ LCK

My tank is not really mature...it's only abt 2 mths old...maybe it might have starved to death but I just got it yesterday...so fast hungry liao?

Anyway, sidetrack a bit...the other fishes in my tank dun really seem to wanna eat...I've got a fire goby that hides all day long and a zebra cardinal that doesn't wanna eat. I'm feeding them dried pallets, the ones wf garlic...also my zebra's fins are shedding....it's like something's biting it away....is it sick? It's got a trail of poo too....abt 1cm long...

it better to acclimate your fish next time, dont be surprise your fish dies from shock from temperature....i doubt is your food...cos fish dont die overnight from lack of food.

agree with decentkid, fish cant die coz lack of food, it can b pH shock/ wat he had mention(temp). if ur mandarin is dull in colour and looks thin when u buy, means he will go anytime liao(prolly on diet eh) ... mandarin is a kind fish, dun think some others will attack him as food or wateverso .. check ur water condition 1st to cfm how tis fishes behaves..

:peace:

What do u mean by acclimate? Is it putting the fish in a seperate tank?

Or letting the fish get used to the temp before letting it into the tank?

I put the fish in after leaving it in the bag for abt 20mins and every 10 mins I poured my tank water into the bag...

what u did are right dude~ B)

forgot to add, IMHO..theres something wrong with your cardinal, the fin part might be fin rot which is usually due to poor water quality...as for feeding, start feed them with frozen mysis first, not all fish will go straight for pellets including tangs...furthermore other types...after they are much settled down, then ween them on pellets

What u mean by poor water quality? Izzit too much chlorine?

I always treat my water b4 adding it in...

My other cardinal died this morning... :cry2:

I aldy tested my water b4 adding fishes in...

What gives?

Sigh...

What are frozen mysis? are they brine shrimp?

Is it ok I i feed them brine shrimp?

poor things, ur cardinal die? hmm.. mysis are small little shrimp, brine is "sea monkey" for wat they call.. u can buy frm LFS.. when u intro the cardinal? it can b pH shock.. tis kinda things veri hard to say.. did u check ur pH? fish die so fast may b due to pH stress.. ur water condition all meet the requirement? Maybe you could refrain from adding any livestock for the time being... Let the water parameter stablise first... Maybe for a week or two...

When you add your fishes... Try to acclimatize them... Will have a better chance of survival in your tank... The best method is to use the dripping method...

You will need a air tube, a air tube control valve(those green color one) and (of course!!!) a suitable size container or plastic tank... And a air pump to provide circulation during the acclimatization...

Step 1: Pour all the fishes together with the water into the container... <_<

Step 2: Fix the control valve to the air tube <_< ... And start the siphon by ###### the water from your tank to the container...(be careful not to drink some of the tank water)

Step 3: Den just control the drip rate...(i normally do 1-3 drops/sec)

Step 4: Pump air into the container to provide some circulation...

Step 5: Wait untill the water is 200% of the intial level in the container... If you wan to drip longer by all means...

Step 6: Pour the fishes and some of the water in the container into your tank... Want to pour all or some water, up to you...I normally dun pour all...

This will ensure that the fishes will slowly get used to the water para in your tank... Will have a better survival rate... Hope it helps...

Hi,

From my experience, with only 2 months old tank dont add any delicate fish other than damsel becos us tank is still too new!! U can try to add one fish at time and wait for 1 to 2 weeks b4 adding the other., or u will waste alot of money keep buying fishes like me previously.

I can understand the temptation of very nice fish, but please be patient.

Just some advice from my experince. B)

Hi,

Bro dleecool is right about new tank having delicate fishes.

Acclimation Procedure Guidelines

Mandarin fish - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/scateg....5&TopCatId=1635

Dragonets

Colorful, slow-moving Dragonets are some of the most interesting fish for the marine aquarium. Dragonets have special feeding requirements and should be housed in an established aquarium with large amounts of live rock and sand. An aquarium with an attached refugium is also very beneficial, since the refugium helps provide proper nutrition

Hopes it helps

cheers
