Hi, got myself a Teco chiller RA200 recently but facing some problem. Hope that you

guys can help.

Tank spec: about 40 gallon-3 feet; Ambient temp is abt 32 degree; chiller set at 29 degree; two rio 820 running in the tank; and chiller is placed just 2 feet away from the main tank.

Presently. I connected one end of the t-joint from the output of the canister filter to chiller and the other end back to the main tank in order to minimise the flow rate. (Since my canister filter flow rate is doubled my chiller recommended flow rate). After running for two days, i noticed that the chiller is running almost non stop even i only set the temp to 29 degree. also noted that the chiller seldom cut off. What could be wrong here? And aslo noted that the chiller does not cut off even through it reaches its desire temp.

sigh....

please help

hi sirius,

few points for u to consider, hope it helps. ;)

1. how far is ur cannister away from ur chiller? (head loss)

2. get an accurate thermometer, measure the temp in ur tank (or somewhere close to the cannister inlet) juz as the compressor cuts off. is the temp measured similar to that of the preset temp?

3. is the chiller 2nd hand? when was the last time the chiller has been brought for servicing/maintenance?

4. the outlet water flow of ur chiller, issit very slow?

my best guess: the thermostat/controller is faulty, under/over charging of refrigerant in system, water coil in heat exchanger choked.

check the outlet of your chiller....it might be very slow..... i think water flow tends to be faster in the area of less resistance, as the water flow through the chiller, it encounters such resistance as the coils in the chiller turns round and round...therefore with a T-joint, i suspect, most of the water are flowing through the other junction as this offers the least resistance.....put a ball valve on the hose that is not passing throught the chiller and limit the flow such that you will have a nice flow coming out from the chiller....

alternatively, i'm not sure if it will work...connect the canister directly to the chiller and put the value at the input of the canister...hopefully with less water flowing in to the canister the flow rate will slow down.....

end of the day, make sure that its the problem with your flow rate before trying as it can get quite messy reconfiguring your setup...:P

Hi lighting strike, The canister is about 2 feet away from the chiller. Yes the flow tends to be slower i think. Ans the chiller is 2nd hand, about one year, dun think i got any servicing done. Any recommendation where can i do a servicing ?

2 ft??? hmmm...... u might wanna consider adjusting the valve on ur tee junction so as to compensate for a bit of head loss. :P

but i find the thing u shld do now is to get the chiller serviced. think lots of sludge and FOD might be stucked in the heat exchanger, adversely affecting its performance.

try to contact cookiemunster (SRC sponsor) to do the servicing for u. ;)
