Resun CL-650

dear reefers,

if you are users or ex-users of resun CL-650. is it noisy? i'm getting it for my 75gallon setup. and placing it outside the cabinet nxt to the tank. pls comment. thanks for your help.

where did you get your 650 ? how much ?

any good shop to recommend preferable at the west side.

650 is good up to how many gallon tank ?

the thermostat in my 650 needed to be replaced within 1 month after buying it. it took a day for them to service the unit and when i got it back is okey so far (touch wood). in terms of noise, i could only hear the air coming out of the slots, it's not a mechanical sound at all. although once in a whle i get thudding sound when the compressor switch off.

bro, i don;t know about west side, but several shops i know of sells them for $380. iwarna used to sell it for that, not sure now. you could check with them. and some other lfs which are not sponsors here so can't say. you may want to check with the other sponsors in the sponsor thread.

that's the reason it is named "external unit". u can't make comparison to an indoor unit....... if u really wanna make comparison, it is only reasonable if u take the artica indoor units, e.g. units below 1/3hp for benchmarking.

This chiller is quite quiet. Not as much fan noise as from the resun CL-300(old batch) that I used to have.

Its not bad actually.....saw the insides and its dull grey metal in the heat exchanger - what does that tell you?

About $400 + a little noise = Good buy.

Hi,

Sorry to hijack this thread... I bought a CL650 recently to cool my 400L (tank+sump - should be lesser if consider LR)... running about 300W of lights. The chiller is set to 28 degrees as my tank temp register 27 degrees... anyway, the chiller seems to be running most of the time ( hmm... just saw my Nov bill - mid month and it is already consumed 200KWh more than my usual electric bill ) ... thought I have already buy a higher hp ... supposed to only need 1/5hp given the heat generated...

Is this normal? My previous chiller (1/5 from Aquatechic) don't seem to be that bad.... what other things can affect the proper running of the chiller? Help greatly appreciated.

Could be 2 reasons :

1) The pump used (better flow rate)

2) The calibration of the thermometer (setting the temperature of the chiller to coincide with the tank temperature and then set the chiller to acheive the desired temp eg. tank shows 30 degrees set the chiller temperature to 30 as well and then set the desired chilling temperature to say 27 degrees).

Hope this helps (i only learnt recently that the temperature can be calibrated)

I think use a slower flow rate.. Mine i use only 1200l/h.. for a 2ft..
