I've had mine actually release larvae into the water at night. But feed them any sea stars but sandshifting stars. I suspect the diet of sandshifting stars led to the demise of my beautiful adult pair.

Always something more important than fish.

Do you guyz enjoy seeing the starfish being tear apart and slowly die?

Is there a doctor in this fourm, these guyz are SICK!!!!

hey bro,

cool it lah ... there are ppls who keep lionfish and other predator fishes ... also the same mah ..

some of us just love the beauty of these creatures and not their eatting habits ..

and i believe that ppls have the rite to choose wat they prefer...

why some ppls choose to be vegetarian, while some got to have meat everyday??

same theory ..

cheers bro

They eat only star fish ?? What kind of star fish they were eat ?? How to difference between Female & Male Herlequin Shrimp ? look like the same ??? :thanks::thanks:

I read on the net that the females have blue feet . Do a 'google' search on harlequin shrimps and find out more :P

I'm also thinking of starting a harlequin tank.. problem is they cost about 4-5 cleaner shrimps each.

Any bros/sistas have lobangs on where to find good specimens at reasonable price?

Cheers

U need to feed live starfish. Some harlequin may just kill them within an hr. This is a problem cause ur tank may or may not have NH4 spike. In the wild, harlequin will not kill the starfish. It depends on ur luck.

When they are hungry, they will come out to search for food and this is the time u know they need to feed. Mine pair take 2 -3 week to finish one starfish.

when they start feeding on the starfish the starfish dun die? Woah... imagine getting eaten alive and u can feel ur flesh getting torn away.. Is it possible to freeze and chopped up the starfish into smaller parts and feed these small portions to the harlequin shrimps when they're hungry?

U can try but will u be risking polluting ur tank in this case?

but once the HS start feasting on the legs of the starfish won't they die as well and pollute the water even more? Or can the starfish still stay alive when the HS eat it?

The starfish can stay alive as long as the HS does not attack its center part. Read somewhere that, HS are known to even feed the starfish by bring them food. So far, I did not expereince that.
