Best way to combat evaporation???

Hi fellow reefers...

I've got a problem and it's due to my tank water evaporating really quick in a day.

I've got a 2ft x 1.5ft tank. I've attached a profantec fan blowing directly into the surface of the water to reduce the temp of my tank.

But due to this fan, my water evaporates really fast! It's abt an inch per day!

Is there a way to reduce this rapid evaporation besides having to top-up water everyday?

Anyone else is facing this similar problem?

Evaporation = cooler water

Can try turning on the fan less, but then your water will be warmer. Unless you turn off the fan and use a chiller, dun think you can escape having to top up.

Yeah loh bro, you may want to contact Cookiemunster of Coral Labs for the Tubby.

Recently, due to my overflow stuck, my Tubby's float switch was submerged and failed.

I contact him and he came down within the week with a replacement switch. He replace one switch and told me the other is OK, he could have just replace both as I really would have not idea the other is working - but he did not.

I strongly reccomend him.

In fact, if the float switches was not submerged, the tubby will really lasts due to the quality construction.

if you are cooling your tank using forced evaporation, you have to expect a lot of top up.

problem with a small tank like yours is that your parameters might fluctuate due to the evaporation.

a auto top up like the tubby is a goos idea,

or you can try the ice probe chiller.

I also have the same problem. So I drip kalk at the same time, can solve many things at one go:

1. Dose Ca

2. Prevent SG from fluctuating

3. Resolve evaporation problem

That's why I recently paired my TUBBY with CM's Le Kalk Reactor.
