skimmer location in sump

does it matter where you put your skimmer in your sump? e.g: in the 1st compartment or at the return pump compartment..

any effects?

Depends on how you want to place your priority - whether you place emphasis on biological filtration more or mechanical filtration more.

yup, if you want pods and more pods, you want to consider placing the skimmer before the refugium
