DIYed Tupperware overflow box

Just wondering, what is the best ID size of the U-pipe?

Roughly, my U pipe is 2" diameter PVC accomodating a 3000lph return pump (if im not mistaken). Donno exactly the best size for a specific flow.

Can the I make the box at the main tank longer (Depth) but maintain the length of the U-pipe?

IMO in theory U can use a deeper inner box, as long as the critical depth is maintained during power loss.

That's the problem. If the siphon not able to auto start again after the power resumes, the return pump will pump out all the water from your sump to your main tank... :o

huh.. ok get this right pal.. tested already, on and off of power. This is wad happened when power is off. OFF: siphon stopped, water is sucked down by the return pipe, but will stop once air is entered. ON: power pump back water back into the main tank, main sump is empty, but it wont flood my main tank. Conclusion, tat time SG big blackout, my area was not affected, and SG governement is taking very serioudly on the power supply case. So, IMO, i think it's rare to have power failure, unless nv pay PUB bills. Even if suay suay tio, my hse has someone at home.. so no prob. DUn think of the negative sides la bro.. think so much for wad.. and also, i tested liao shld be ok. thnks for all the comments given.

If it's a WRX, it gotta be STI.

I think you have not experience power trips when no one is at home ... You are putting your home in a potential fire hazzard.

Anyway ... that's your wish ... but if your sump only contain enough water that you main tank can hold ... I would rethink the use of a sump in this case.

how do u start the siphoning in the u tube?

Drill a hole at the topmost of the U tube, attach an air valve (make sure to seal it - airtight). You can manually suck the air inside the u tube using yr mouth (easier done with a long airtube attached to the valve). Close the valve tightly after doing this. You just have to make sure that the siphon does not break in a power failure.

A better way is to attach the air tube directly to a powerhead venturi. The powerhead will suck the air for you, just make sure the valve is always open for the powerhead to suck air out.

bro.. thnks for the advise.. i have already done tat very long ago.. anyway ppl, it's just for ur reference, i wont be taken in account tat when the device fail, ur hse caught fire, ur hse flood, u screw up ur own tank is not my problem. <_< *ps, not aiming at u cismot.

overflow......................

astrobol ur concept of overflow box is..............

can i put it in this way ...............

yours is rather to be a siphonning box than to be a overflow box..........

why????????

bcos an ovf box should be able to stop and restart the siphon when there is an electrical breakdown.....................

for ur case it cant..............

u can try to add on a buffer plate in the ext box to buffer the water when e water stop to flow into the overflow................

this will make both the water to be at the same level in the both boxes......

as water start to flow into the int box when the pump is on bk................

it will create water pressure head......... plessing the water downward n into the u tube thus siphon restart..............

for ur design is ok.............

u mention tat when pump is on back.

water will be empty in the return compartment of ur tank cos it have been pump up all the the free space of ur main tank.................

nt to worry. ur overflow is accustomise to ur sump size.........

it will works 4 ur sump

wat i trying to say tat u must nt try to chg ur sump if nt the water may be more and overflow ur main tank................ :D
