Expert advise needed

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I have this problem and need your expert advise. I'm using a Dymax Octo 150W MH. Water parameters are stable and temp is ard 28.5 - 29 deg. However, as you can see from the attached pix, I am unable to place any SPS or LPS above the bottom red line. Any corals place above that level will melt (LPS) and bleach (SPS). Anything placed below does extremely well.

Can you guys advise what I should to??? Thanks in advance.

aclimatising your sps to the light is very very impt...you can still add LR in to raise the height and gradually shift your sps closer to the light.

many reefers has placed acro directly under 400W MH and they grow and colour up like mad.

Wave maker does not bleach sps or melt LPS. They blow tissues off and topple corals if distance is not suitable.

I am a little concern about the temp though....ideally, when you keep SPS or LPS, try as much to keep temp between 25, 26 degrees to a max of 29 degrees. High temp does bleaches corals.

That fan at the side will also cause high evaporation thus making it a must to top up very regularly...again fluctuation of water parameter too frequently can stress the corals as well.

My 2cents for your condsiderations.

Thanks guys for the advises. I don't think that the Seio is the cause of the problem. It is blowing at the front of the glass to reduce the current. The SPSs I have below are doing very well. Place corals, not in the direction of the Seio current, still melt or bleach.

My own guess is Temp. I have 2 choices to consider, pls comment. 1. Change light to T5 (assuming not buying chiller) and 2. buy a chiller.

go for a chiller. ;)

I second that, i believe cold water will soothe the coral and move the heat away, more important with higher wattage lamps, even with T5, heat is built up on the coral. Imagine placing something under the sun, the temp of the surrounding is always cooler, constant cold water is very important.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. Any recommendation of which brand and model to use for my 2 x 1.5 x 1.5 ft tank?

it really depends on ur budget.

here's a TECO RA200 put up for sale by a fella reefer, think it will suit ur tank size.
