Hi All,

I am not quite sure on which Kalkwasser brand to use.

Among the various Kalk brands available in the LFS. Please advise the ones which you guys have used and have had +ve results(coralline growth etc.) on ur reef tanks.

I used Reefex, AquaZ, and Seachem before. Actually I can't really see any difference between them personally. Typically I just buy any that is available when my supply ran out.

i m using both KR & CR. for KR i use Reefez, for CR i use Caribsea A.R.M

Icic.... IMO , if u are keeping Lps and softies, Drip KAll is sufficient..

I am using Reefz...And i find it cheap and can be use for a long long time..

acutally, i think unless you have equipment to test the puretiy of kalkwater...you can only trust what the manufactures claims.....IMHO most brand of kalkwater will do....reefers in the states even use plicking lime....

From what I hv been reading ...Kalkwasser is just Calcium hydroxide Ca (OH) 2 so ideally any pure source of Calcium hydroxide should be fine.

Also read that dissolving Ca (OH) 2 in acetic acid(white vinegar) serves the same purpose.

Lime water also contains Ca (OH)2 but does anyone know a pure source ? So no need to buy any additives at all, DIY Kalk !!!

I think if you are dosing kalkwaser then the differences between manufacturers are the concentration and purity of the mix.Like what bro tineng says,got to try and find out which serves your purpose and needs coz each tank runs differrently.

I do not have the equipment for such test but i do have the results for various brands tested via a private lab.

if you talk about dosing Kalk, you are basically increasing both CA and KH....allowing you to dose in a more balance fashion...

but if you does calcium, you are only increasing the CA....this can be done by dosing with a number of commerial products like Calcium Chlorine or Calcium gulcosue (can't spell correctly... ) or the calcium part of 2 parts additive..

doing CA is usually to bring the water parameters back in line to more balance value and should not be done blindly and without taking care of your KH....

Lets get something clear here.I didn't say kalkwaser doesn't contain calcium.It does but in very little amount as compared dosing Calcium alone.The advantage of dosing kallwaser is in maintaining akalinity as opposed to dosing Calcium alone which lowers akalinity.Hope this clears the air.

easy bro....he is just saying that there are less CA in kalkwater....not no CA....

I not too sure about his statement thought because the funny thing that i notice is that my KH acutally deplete faster then CA despite dosing kalkwater regularly....i add more KH buffer then CA to bring every thing to balance. Don't think its ionic inbalance as the Mg seems to be correct and i do change water regularly....
