My 3' tank has 2x150w 20K XM and night light as supre blue 2 LED BULBS. Night Light were introduced only 1 week ago and past a few night, I do notice, ALL SPS's poly extend more when Night Light is on.

MH Photo periods is 8Hrs, and Night Light is for simple reason 24. When MH off @ Midnight, my tank seem to be more active by SPS.

Is it normal ( Hanky Penky Time ) ?

No wonder most of SPS reefer here , don't sleep at NIGHT :P

I think, when in Night mode, they could not get enough light comapre to day mode, so their polys extended to reach out maximun light source.

Any1 care to explain ?

Polyps expand more at night because sps in the wild know that there are more zooplankton in the surrounding water during the night. Zooplankton in the wild stay hidden in the depths during the night, only rising to the surface after dusk to feed. Thus it makes perfect sense that sps polyps extend more during the night. Not forgetting that there will be no fishes awake to nip on their sensitive polyps.

Always something more important than fish.

Used to have a pair of cleaner shrimp - they spawn the first 30 mins i switch off the lighting .. so it is true that life become active in the night which is why your sps open up the polyp.

And they do that every 3 weeks ... so not a bad idea to invest in cleaner shrimp .... live zooplankton ... dont need to breed.
