Cycling without LR...

helo guys! can we cycle the tank without using LRS? cycling with those beneficial bacteria solution.... can cycle be done that way?

Of course you can. Basically, once waste(like a decomposing MP) is present, bb will form in the system to break it down. There needn't be a presence of LR for bb to colonize the filter media.

THe main problem IMO is that later on when LR is added, you must add them slowly or cure them beforehand, otherwise your going to trigger an ammonia spike.

if u plan not to add LRs in future, by all means u can. else adding LRs in future will kick off another cycling process.

why not???? FW tank is done that way and most LFS don't have LR in their tanks anyway....the only problem is introducting LR later on as they might have some sort of die off, triggering another round of cycling....

I cycled my liverockless tank with a damsel... But it was one damsel in about 50 gallons of water. Still happily living to date.

yup...hypo salnality will do the job..soon all the nasty things will crawl out in no time
