Cycling without LR...

helo guys! can we cycle the tank without using LRS? cycling with those beneficial bacteria solution.... :P can cycle be done that way? :unsure:

Of course you can. Basically, once waste(like a decomposing MP) is present, bb will form in the system to break it down. There needn't be a presence of LR for bb to colonize the filter media.

THe main problem IMO is that later on when LR is added, you must add them slowly or cure them beforehand, otherwise your going to trigger an ammonia spike.

Thanks guys! :P i'm planning not to use any LRS! as i do not want to intro nasties into the tank...... is there a way to kill all the nasties on LRS with supa dupa high salinty level? :unsure:

I cycled my liverockless tank with a damsel... :ph34r: But it was one damsel in about 50 gallons of water. Still happily living to date. :rolleyes:
