Hi guys,

I have been planning this tank for about 1/2 yr now... Have not started it as currently need to work out a budget...

But here's the design layout... please give your comments and how I can improve it or change it for the better...

I'm thinking of having a propagation tank, sump, refugium & top up reservoir...

This is the front view...

Here's the view from the Left side...

(I also realised the dimensions are wrong... not suppose to have the decimal points...)

Thanks... any other advise bro?? I've never design my own tank before... what are the things to look out for...

I think I have not thought about the water returns and return loops and water circulation... what's the best way to go?

Also, placing the propagation tank below... before the sump ... is it the best result?

you might want to draw in the deminsion of your lights that is use to light your propagation tank.... my cabintate is about 90cm tall but internally it only has 65cm height of space, after putting in the sump, i realise that the prog tank can have to be 5 inch height and with the lights in.....can barely squeeze my hands into the tank!!!!

Noted.. thanks... I calculated approx. 20cm space only... should be ok??

Can post a pix of your tank sump and propagation setup so that I can see how to improve?

Thanks

Have you considered the turn over rate for your tank?

From the pic, I see that the main tank over flows into the propagation tank before going to the sump

=========> can the propagation tnak handle the flow rate without having a million bubbles forming?

Suggest that you have another overflow just to the propagation tank so as to have individual control of water turn over in each tank.

Suggest that you leave more allowance everywhere as no tank maker will build to exactly your diamensions.

(1) I have 2ft+ (~65cm) space for my MH, and I find it really little... Go for more if possible.

(2) Your spacing of 60cm for your sump and prpagation tank is definately NOT enough. Have you considered the thickness of the wood/ metal used, and suitable allowance???

change the position of yr MD55 for your RM skimmer, If there is a power failure, the pump will empty itself and will not restart :pirate:

just my suggestion/IMO ^_^

Why not make it an all round view tank instead?

Maybe next time we can share our progress of our propagation systems?

saw an md55 ...for what purpose?

MD55 is for the Beckett Skimmer...

Why not make it an all round view tank instead?

> The other side is the TV & living room... wi-fe finds lighting so bright... so it's a safe move to do 2 sides ... Also, if you see the pix, the windows are very glaring... day time cannot see with all the reflections and what more, window facing AM sun... that's what my current tank is facing now... every AM sun shines thru the tank!

Maybe next time we can share our progress of our propagation systems?

> sure... but I think it will be a long time for me... still working out the propagation system... any advise?

ok here goes some changes...

cabinet is now 110cm high > is this very high?? must use ladder then...

but this give approx 25cm-30cm space for propagation tank's lighting & 35cm-40cm space for the Refugium/DSB lighting. ..

Any one got any adivse how much should the flow rate be for a 4-5ft tank?

flow rate as in return? if u r gonna use a MD55 for ur beckett, then it is only logical to go for a return higher than that of an Iwaki MD55 which is rated at ard 1080G/hr. so let us say it is abt 4000L/hr for beckett........ depending on head loss from ur return to main tank........ i will agar agar say more than 5000L/hr return wld suffice???

ok thanks... think I should get to a Iwaki Mx70 or Mx100 for my returns... I'm using a Resun Md55 for my future Beckett...(just got the pump only, beckett coming soon... ) as the Iwaki pump is twice as good...
