how long to run a skimmer?

some said its recommended to turn off when feeding coz it will suck all the vitamins?

Its a personal preference. I leave mine on all the time even when i flood my tank with food. Doesn't seem to make much of a difference to me, or maybe i am jus lazy... some prefer to off when they dose phyto and during feeding time.

mine on on 24hrs.. except after washing the collection cup, i will dose phyto and leave the skimmer off for 6-8hrs... twice a week

one more question my water seems to be not very clear compare to those at shop.

i was told that my bacteria are not enough. is this true?

Regular use of activated carbon will remove that dirty yellowish tint in water.

If you have a lot of detritus floating in your water, a pre-filter will help.

If you want super clear water.. then ozone it... if you really know what you're doing and what you want to achieve with it.

i mean those micro bubble... i have tried to off the skimmer, the result is better, seems like the bubble from skimmer.

and the use of carbon will reduce the vitamin's i heard.

cannondale i see u used plastic to cover ur sump ... u sld try to find ways to reduce the splashing of water .. it will not good for the tank because u will lose the water quite often and u have to check ur salinity in order to have stable tank. I have one question abt skimmer ... if ur tank really stable said every zero for ammonia, natrite and nitrate will the skimmer still produce the gunk ... my skimmer doent skimm anything anymore or maybe my skimmer gone mad.

yea, the water from the skimmer are everywhere. making the wooden area wet, that why i cover it with the DIY plastic

about the skimmer it still produce those gunk.. a very dark colour but very less

so your skimmer same as mine?
