Well it all depends on the oxygen saturation in your tank

If the saturation is high, you might need a thicker DSB to restrict diffusion

Remember, you want to achieve a lowly oxygenated area

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

steal it from one of the beaches loh...hahahhaa

i think its better to have a very thick sandbed...i never regret having a 5inch DSB cos now i have no Nitrate problems at all..even though i feed my tangs like mad(3-4times a day)...

if u only have a 3inches DSB, i rather u save the money on the sand and go for a big skimmer...but since now tat u have already have the 3inches, then add more loh...

bite the bullet when u are setting up..its better than regretting it next time when u face problems...u will hate it!!

Hi. No nitrate problems? I assume it is below 5ppm or perhaps even zero?

That's great! :)

Could you kindly share with us more info about your DSB?

What sand type/quality (#0 or #1 or mix) did you use?

Is it 5" evenly distributed throughout or sloping?

Is the DSB in your main tank or sump?

What size is your tank or sump?

How many KG of each type of sand did you use?

How old is the DSB now?

Thanks very much for sharing.

:thanks:

For DSB to work you need a minimum of at least 3 " any less will do more harm (nitrates) than good. A good DSB is 5-6".

If you have a refugium for nitrate export, then it is not necessary to have a DSB, you way want 1/2" to 3/4" for "looks" purpose where you can clean the sand bed easily.
