Securing Lr In A Pile

Is there a secure way to pile up LR without risking any from tipping over and hitting the glass??

- Will a simple glue gun do the job?

- what about two-part epoxies? any toxic effect on tank inhabitants due to improper mixing ratios and from uncured material?

Use cable ties or two-part epoxies like Selley's Knead it.

just out of curiosity, generally how long can LR and sps be out of the water while waiting for the 2-part epoxy to cure...? thanks

The curing is usually done in a tub of tank water without water current.

Background: I am trying to stack up a few small pieces of LR in my tank with 2-part epoxy. In normal applications, the epoxy takes up to half an hour to set and another 24 hrs to fully harden (cure). I assume tht the epoxy will only set out of water.

When you mentioned curing in a tub of tank water.... do you mean that the epoxy will set just the same when submerged in water?? If not, how long can the LR be taken out of the water before it becomes detrimental to its inhabitants?

What about pieces of rock with corals or mushrooms? will they survive long out of water? would love to try keeping some of those when tank is established.

The epoxy is Epoputty which is similar to Selley's knead it.

The corals and stuff can survive out of water for about half an hour but it will kill a lot of your sponge. The curing does take place underwater but if sometime if you are using a lot of epoxy or that it's not convenient to work in the tank, the rocks can be removed and placed in another tank to work on. Epoxy putty is not a glue and doesn't bond at all with the LR. It can be peeled off easily. It works more on 'locking' the gaps together.
