oh sorry, I got phosphate removal in a socks that I placed at the outlet of the skimmer.

I did not recognize the word rowaphos and was too excited about finding a way to remove those brown algea films. They are irritating and grow very fast. I got to use a toothbrush on them every week and even then, it did not stop them growing.

Hi bro,

I have brown aglea too growing on my rocks and corals. In fact, they are a soft films that can be easily wipe off. Are these diatom ?

U mentioned that we can use rowaphos to get rid of it. is that a chemical ? where to buy ?

hi bro... the soft purple film is slime algae and the brown stuff is diatom. rowaphos is a media that helps you to get rid of phophate which is necessary for the growth of these unwanted stuff.... it's quite ex considering that i'm a student..... i think anyone of the the sponsor LSF should carry it.

it's been a month since i updated my tank thread. diatom problems seems to be resolving. here's the latest pic of it. just lost a PBT to ich. prbly after i replaced my sump and disturb the filtration and caused stress to the fish.. an elegance died earlier on. battling with ich at the moment.

Bro, unless u have a powerful skimmer, better dun add too much livestocks now, coz of the PBT and the elegance's death, the DOC in the water now can be pretty high... :)

Juz my $0.02... :P

thanks bro for your concern... agree...won't add anymore LS... till all of them recovers.... :D adding any new LS seems to pose lots of risk

Bro, u have a UV already? how many watts??

used to have a coralife 6x at 18watts. sold it away cos no ich after two weeks of operation. then i sold it away to get an ozonizer which i thought is more effective.. currently using a resun 250mg thats cost 65bucks.. eating away rubber in the tank cabinet. and yet my fish are still getting ich... if ich doesnt resolve will go back to a 36watt UV. this time round i will get a jebo instead. i think 'turbo twist' is a gimmick. :D

I know if a reefer that uses a 36W Atman UV and running it 24/7...

Still, almost all his LS wiped out by whitespots.... I tink the speed at which the water flow through the UV cannister is important.... which is why the turbo twist does have its advantage.... :)

i fully agree with you about the importance of the speed water passing through the canister. what i thought was that kill or no kill depends on the amt of UV that the organisms receieve. water travels alonger distance though a turbotwist canister but the duration of exposure which determines the amount of UV received is still the same as that of a normal canister. :)

but after knowing abt a fellow reefer's experience and if budget allows, i'd be most keen to get a 12x.... :)

here's the huge prata i got from bro kamiru. thanks for sharing your reefkeeping tips with me a newbie. the prata did open up in my tank. fortunately. :)

notice the ich on the YT..sighz

Hey rocky, can see that the prata and open brain is safe in your tank. Actually, i dun really feed them. I only use phytoplanton every alternate days. This in fact made my prata and brain look more puffier. Suggest u put the brain on higher elevation, this will cause it to open more beautifully. For the prata, theres a tubeworm at the side of its rock. look carefully and u will find it. Very interesting.

thanks bro.... i'll try that. would be great if the red prata can open bigger.

currently at war with ich. but limited things i can do. can't use copper cos of corals. tangs in my tank are impossible to catch unless i tear down the rockwork, therefore no hyposalinity.

really hope i don't lose anymore livestock.... :cry2:

am so glad that this african clown i got today decided to reside in the anemone, unlike my previous percs.

so i decided to take a few pics, and as usual, photo quality is poor - is it with the operator or camera? wait till i get the macro lens.

the fish is not feeding still and stoning all the time at one corner of the tank. wonder how long will it survive like that.
