Bought a cowie home abt one month back. Seen it happily grazing on the diatoms in my tank, A couple of weeks back found that it started grazing on my sponges.

:(

Hope that fellow aquarists who have cowies can share their own experiences, as i suspect that that was the culprit that wiped out my whole colony on Giant green mushies :cry2:

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

Did not know that they do that too. Have been keeping mine for 4 months already, the only crime the guy is guilty of is knocking over my corals, and heater.

It hardly touch my corals, in fact, I am not sure what it is eating because I was hoping it can help with my algae problem. But cowry happy moving around, algae happily blooming in my tank.

At first I thought cowries are carnivores. Later came to find out from Reef Central that some could be herbi too. My cowrie is a 3-incher, and has been in my sump for more than a month already. Dared not place it in the main tank for fear that it would topple my LRs. I also wonder what it feeds on as my tank is as bare as the desert.

I read somewhere that differnt types have different diets.

The more common tiger cowie eats algae and the All white Egg cowie actually eats soft leather corals!!!! :erm:

But mine looks funny leh... its a cowie, but the pattern on its shell is similar to that of a cone shell. Triangular markings and all... But dont worry i know hoe to differentiate. ;)

Catch it Grazing on sponges in my tank. Thought its juz haveing a small bite but end up clearing up the whole patch of the yellow encrusting sponge! :(

Even teh resulting poo it produce is spongey...
