Experience that before when I have a normal hermit crab. The fella try to pull out the tube worm. Reckon it was very hungry that's why it go for your tube worm which is easily available. Try to provide food for them if there isn't enough uneaten food in your tank.

Saw my blue leg Hermit crab eating the tube worm from the middle of the tube (tube tear off). Quickly removed the hermit from the tank. The tube worm still alive, but with lesser feather now. Anyone experience it before? Is it normal for hermit to eat the tube worm like box fish?

Happened to me before and I gave away the hermit, ;)
