Overflow pipe very noisy

can i drill a hole here to reduce the noise?

Hi creetin, is this overflow part of a durso or is it a siphon sytem?

I have a DIY siphon system and I put some cotton wool in the vertical pipe where the guzzling noise comes from (but there is no water contact in that spot of course). it makes the system noiseless!

If you gave the whole picture of your system it would be easier to say. a hole where you inticate would increase the noise in any way I can think of.

The noise comes from the air entering the pipe i think...

abit late to do a Tjoint like e Durso...hmm.....

u can fit the t joint in at the back?

put elbow in the end of the pipe inside the tank

put the t joint at the opposite end

would this work for u?

that's my advice on how the durso can be built

but u know your pipes best so u judge if u can do it.

another wae to reduce noise is increase return rate from sump

i cant fit the durso already, pipes are already sealed.....

aiya....u should haf used white seal tape instead of cement...if liddat bo pian.

but i'm sure if u increase return flow rate it will quiet down cos whole tube will need to suck water and not air.

now is lets sae tube can suck 5000L per hour but your return pump only 3000L/hr....therefore tube must suck 2000L/hr worth of air which gives the noise....

if u increase return pump...less air sucked less noise

I am not sure this will work or not- stick a t pipe to the end of the overflow setup, slant it so that one end in water the other out )and not blocked by bracing. Stick another short PVC pipe on this end and put a end cap with small hole. Viola! a durso. A cheapo diagramn for you, creetin.

Based on what shoelevy is saying about the water:air ratio,

maybe you can try putting a bioball at the water in hole

and see if it can help to reduce the rate of air suction.

And maybe the noise will be reduced too.

Put a elbow at the in-take

Drill a small hole on the external elbow and fit a air hose with a plastic tap for adjustment. That should solve yr problem...

i got prob with durso cos alwaes got bubbles so i employ another method.

stuff pipe mouth with wool

no sound no bubbles

Is ur pipe glue with pvc glue?if not u still can take out the elbow and fix with durso into the pipe.

u can add something like wat all the others are saying. can definately reduce noise. drilling a hole does solve the problem .. u might end up with more noise...

i have draw something that u might be able to use. that a look.
