Bicolour Dottyback

Have a bicolour dottyback for the last eight months.

In recent time it has become aggressive and attack most similar size fishes that go within its territory.:evil:

I need to get rid of it but unable to catch it in the net. :cry2:

Any advice on how to catch ?

If anyone can catch it, it is yours for free. :thanks:

Remember most fishes sleep in the night ....- attack before Dawn ....

Good luck ..... When i caught mime .... half my life almost gone ....3 times I caught it but it jumps over the acrylic barrier I have setup using acrylic to isolate the fish to 1/4 of my tank.

Observe where it is resting during the night - probably in some crevice in your rock - cover the entrance (maybe with a transparent container or net) and use a stick to agitate the fish so that it will swim right into your container.

Happy counter-striking :P

How big is your tank? IF big enough.... no harm letting it have a few square inches.

Anyway, super sure catch trick for these small active fish.

Get 1 small 500ml mineral water bottle. Buy some live brine shrimp. Tie think line to the bottle neck. Monofilament line is good.

Put shrimps in bottle, submerge bottle. wait......

The assertive little fish will most likely be in there in minutes. lift the line up. Voila.

I felt that fish always look very stone in the night .... maybe still half asleep ... like I use to have a sunrise dotty ... i could even catch it with my bare hands .... :P

yah but if the fishes hide inside the rocks to sleep, cannot reach even if they are stone mah :(

Be teachable always, nobody has a monopoly on wisdom. But learn to distinguish "fact" from "opinion".

That's why I said observed where they sleep in the night .... mime always sleep in the same place ... they won't change bed so often. Use a stick to poke them after that.

  • 3 weeks later...
  • 1 month later...

Fishes that move ard rocks like dottybacks, dwarf angel or gamma is very hard to catch.... The mainly occupy the middle- bottom zone so most trap wun work....

Any good luck to you guys.... (i remember i tear down my tank to remove my stupid powder blue tang)

Hi Nautica,

I know I'm late on this as I've just joined the SRC.

Did you manage to catch the bicolour dottyback?

Is yours a False Gramma or a Royal Gramma?

Regards.

Felix Wong

sorry, i am unable to distinguish if it is a false or royal gramma.

and that fella is too smart for me to catch. ;):P

i reckon it has more patience than me.

Hi,

Can someone provide the name of the fish seen in the photograph everytime RAV-65 (Tuna) reply? I'm referring to the orange angel-like fish with stripes.

How big will that fish grow?

Is it agressive towards other fish and is it reef-safe?

Where I can buy this fish?

Thanks.

Felix Wong

:off:

The LS that Rav-64 mentioned is a Haiwaii flame angel. Read mor about them here.

Look out for any LFS that bring in Hawaii shipment coz they are popular fish that alot of pple wants.

These are the few species to tell the differents.

Brazilian gramma

I reckon when Felix mentioned false gramma means brazilian gramma. If you don't mind, I can offer you my service FOC with a glass of ice water if you're near me. I stay Sembawang.

based on the three pics, I am now quite sure it is a bi-colour dotty back.

neokn, thanks for the offer. i stay at katong, so quite a distance from sembawang. perhaps, one day when we chance to meet, then you can help me. otherwise don't worry. it will still be my pleasure to offer you a drink anytime you are around katong. keep in touch. thanks again.

The last pic is still a royal gamma.... Its still has the black strip on its eyes.... Move not as big as the one braziliansis should have.....

Felix, welcome to SRC.

I am assuming from your question, you may also wish to know that the photo/picture that you can see in RAV-65 (and most reefers) postings is in the area call "avatar". Try to read and search more on this in SRC.

Hint: see somewhere top of screen and click on "My Controls". Then in next screen, click on "Personal Profile", etc. etc.

Hope it is useful to colour up your life in SRC ..... hehehe ;):P

Yeah this is a braziliansis... notice the first pic.. the black strip run from the mouth across the eye while the second one only remains along the eye..... Notice the second pic the head and mouth very broad and big
