Hello, actually I'm very curious what determines whether a person will be posted to police, CD or the SAF? I'll be going for NS soon after my exams at the end of this year. I"m actually hoping that I'll be posted to the police force considering that I do have consideration of working in the police force in the future.

Ya, someone mentioned to me about signing on before being enlisted but I'm actually thinking of furthering my studies after my A's. I was told that if I were to sign on, I will not be able to further my studies and the only way is on a distance learning basis.

To sign-on as police inspector. minium.. a degree. Even a nspi (ns police inspector > can't sign on as full time police inspector unless he has a degree.)

unlike saf.. A' level and dip can sign on as officer.

hamannbmw> if you want to sign on as police inspector... you can sign-on as local study scholarship. If you are top- A' student.. don't worry.. they will come after you ..

My hint.. sign-on .. only if your results > top-scholar... ;) Rest.. no point.. During my 9month course, a MIT scholar who joined us during pro' term. After course >completed. after two weeks ..> promoted to Captain. And his pay > higher than 'normal' captain.. A number of my course mates.. local study scholarship. their careers > already ''fixed'''. ;)

not really true...if ur performance is good and if the course that u are signing up for is relevant then they will allow u...

lets say u are thinkin bout studying in NUS NTU or SMU, then dun have to worry at all...they will even pay your school fees and give allowance...only that u have to go back to work during your school breaks...this applies for officers, not too sure about others...

i suggest tat u call up the hotline and enquire...it will be much bettert than listening to pple like us who cannot ensure anything...

I've already enquired with them during one of their road shows and also on their hotline. They told me that its unlikely I'll be able to further my studies and recommended me to study on a distance learning basis. Oh ya, as to whether they will be paying for the school fees and all, I think that only goes to those scholars or some really high achieving person.

Hmmm, so does anyone knows what determines a person as to which vocation (CD,SPF,SAF) he'll be posted to?

By the way ah,

SPF is full already... they not taking in any more Police Officers, no need to mention Senior Officers..... they close their online application page already.....

Best chance to sign on is... go in as NS... then frm NS... sign on.....

y nt sign on with scdf?

its a very noble career if u ask me..

be in a life saving force..

the personal satisfaction dat one gets when just save a possibly fatal situation is euphoric.. of course dat doesnt happen everyday but personally fighting fire surely beats seating ard at npc taking down reports!:lol: (hope i dont offend anyone juz kidding)

for a levels/diploma holders can join their emergency response specialists or paramedics..

just my 2 cents..

penyu bro.. ur situation really hard to decide to sign-up or not.. cos u can go to U after ur A.. i think police force dun offer u any sponsorship for further studies. Here are some benefits tat might help

12 days unrecorded examination leave(subject to approval)

Course sponsorship(subject to approval)

signing on for army seems to be better options.. they have alot of package tat can cater ur needs.. but den u wanted to be a police officer. Like me! im signing on after attaining my diploma.. 5yrs..(MTE)

Everything's sold. Back in 2yrs time.

Hello there bro astroboi, I can imagine myself working in the police force but not in the Army. :P

As for working in the civil defence as a paramedic, I dont think I can handle it, have to see all the casualties of accidents and all.

By the way, whats MTE?

One of my cousins joined the police force after graduating from university. She is now an inspector and by looking at her, seems like she is enjoying her life. But however, I do need the experience before signing on. Thats the reason why Im hoping to be posted to the Police force for my NS, hence, able to experience the life in there. Anyway, my twin brother have received his enlistment letter and is posted to the army. I still havent receive mine though.

You may like to ask those serving officers what their comments are. Cause from what i know, many of those officers who had just sign on want to quit their job in SPF. Not an easy job i would say.

If you are thinking of signing on straight after your A's, the most you will be signing on as a Sergeant. You may like to consider furthering your studies and come back later to try your luck signing on as anInspector. Better prospect.

bro penyu..

don't rush... take your time... serve your ns first.. ;) .. your thinking may change! ;) .. You want to enlist into spf.. can't control it... really. most of the guys. will enter army. (bmt).. few nsf will get into navy and airforce...

To be post to spf as ns police inspector or just police force after bmt... .. even rare.. ;) ... 100% > to enlist into spf.. sign-on before your enlistment but very risky.... .

Advice... don't rush... ;)

Maybe this helps...

I know of many pple who had been members of Youth FLying Club and when they applied for pilot training course in RSAF, they are usually the ones shortlisted. And they went on to a career in the Airforce but honestly, looking at their jobscope and secondary duties and some other protoccol to adhere...I feel that it sucks... :(

thus...if you wanna be a policeman, do you have NPCC background? Voluntary Constable Status or things related to ensure a jumpstart in your entry?

But I suggest that in this 'paper-chase' society, it is better to get more qualifications if you thinking of going into civil service... :(

I was in NPCC in Secondary school, but I was told that NPCC have nothing to do with real life police. All that was learnt are not even used in the police force. That was wat my NCO told me. Anyway, Im thinking of furthering my studies after my A levels, thats the reason why Im not thinking of signing on. :)
