lightningstrike
Is sun coral hard to keep ? IME, no. they r quite easy and hardy provided u know how to keep them happy. can just pour plankthon into the tank to feed the coral ? no. they require target feeding to every single polyp with mysis/brine shrimps, etc. does it require lots of lights and water movement ? low lights with moderate water movement will do well for them. wher to place it in order to let it bloom nicer ? as above. for more general info, u can refer to here. SRC Member untouchables Posted October 17, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted October 17, 2004 juz curious, why need to target feed sun coral individually? how does it get its food in the ocean? maybe we can do the same like we feed corals, etc? lightningstrike
u can choose to vary ur feeding. but at least twice a week will be a good guide. sun corals need to be fed individually bcoz it is one of the few corals that does not contain a symbiotic algae. SW = salt water cyclopeeze = planktonic food. do a search to find info. most lfs hv them. polyps will usually open when the coral is hungry or in the evening. SRC Member moxa Posted October 17, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted October 17, 2004 Target feeding is needed unless the water flow movement does not bring the food to the Sun coral. using cyclopeeze is fine. Even frozeen cyclopeeze type. when is bloom, flood your tank with cyclopeeze and u can see the "bud" close up. This consider sun coral is having "makan" The latest sun coral type will be the branch type of sun coral. I believe one of reefer sold it on SRC. For caring it reefer lighthingstrike mentioning all the points. I just got my first sun coral today and it start feeding after 4hrs. Only found one at the 65 Sungei Tengah "Marine Fishes" LFS cheers Moxa
SRC Member typrobin Posted October 17, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted October 17, 2004 in nature, sunflower lives in nutrient-laden water...meaning very "dirty"(with lotsa food floating around) water...that is where they are found...just like goniopora... u need to target feed them because u will not be able to provide them with all the nutrients that they can find in the wild...and flooding your tank with enormous amount of food will cost serious DOC problem... unless u are very patient, i suggest u skip this coral...its quite tiring to target feed all of them...each polyp needs to be feed individually, as they dun not share the food... The bulbs are fleshy and swollen, but there are no tentacles as those I see in the pictures. Is there anything else I can do? BTW, can trigger also pm me your secret receipe for keeping sun?
