First time trying T5s for my new reef...so got a friend to DIY a set for me.

Material mainly comprised of:

1) 4X e-ballast,

2) 6X Aquaz T5 - 20KK

3) 2X Aquaz T5 - actinic

4) 8X Aquaz Reflectors

and a casing(has 3mm acrylic sheet to prevent water splashing on the tubes and easy maintainance) to house the tubes.

Just a simple set for my 3X2X2 ft tank...I believe Flamey was lucky enough to get him to help out in custom making one as well. :P

(note ...this is only a prototype and he is already thinking of modifying the set liaoz....I am a simple person..so asked for a simple design lor)

flamey...I am bringing this back to my friend for further modifications... thanks to the good Dr E for his kind advice.

1)The key issue now is to reduce the overall weight by removing the metal plate on top.

2) Followed by using a dark acrylic on top with big ventilation holes to allow hot air to escape...then possibly..I may fixed up a couple of fans to drawn out the hot air..

As this is a project to try something different...so would be interesting to continue to modify it.

Dr..anymore suggestion? Thanks for volunteering your exp and advice on this.

hi DB,

im always around giving advise for ppl and also being KPO.... not my work still i want to chap...

the only setback for this design is that its large, hard to remove when required, not much air vendilation. Btw, can i know what material is used for the housing? if its steel, u will see it rusting in no time.

hope its made from aluminium........ :D

puting fans is good......u can actually tap on the T5......means, when the t5 are on, so do the fan...when the t5 are off, so do the fan...

btw, nice work from the maker :D

yup! agreed the top part is the heavy one..

the top part itself is heavier than the casing plus the ballast and tubes!:lol:

i believe he is already sourcing for a lighter alternative like acrylic...

dats wat he told me.. :D the overall weight is worrying..

and yah like dr evil mentioned theres nt much air ventilation..

but this is his prototype mah.. confirm gt alot of things to improve on..

nw just waiting for him to be free to do the modifications.. :whistle:whistle:lol:
