new tank setup

im setting up a new 2ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft tank. please advise on the following steps if any of them has gone wrong. thank you.. need alot of help from all the pros here.

SSB of 3" using Nature's Ocean Live Sand ard 15kg

lightings: 2 x 24W T5 Daylight + 24W Actinic Blue T5

Weipro SA-2012 protein skimmer

Profantec Fan

Hang-on Back Filter (may convert into refugium). Considering Aquaclear but dunno the price.

2 Maxi jet 400 Powerheads at 45deg opp each other

Live fiji rocks of 15kg

Intended corals:

Hammer

Sun corals

Frogspawn

Zoanthids

Ricordea

Elegance

Orange Sponge

Livestocks:

Electric Blue crabby

1 x Blue damsel

1 x true percula clownfish

1 x firefish

1 x goby

1 x cleaner shrimp

1 x cardinal fish

please give ur advice as im setting up my tank pretty soon. thank you all for ur wonderful and invaluable help.

welcome to this hobby! i think that mebbe u shld get a pair of true percs instead of juz one, since its really much more interesting when u haf a pair

and make sure u haf a hood or else the Firefish might jump out when u're adjusting the rocks.

add 5 more kg of normal rocks lor, then i think it shld be enuff.

SSB 3"? i suggest either u go minimum 4" dsb or berlin. 3" is like in the middle of no where.

Berlin style means sand is just for aesthethic purpose.. not for de-nitrification.. u will depend on LR and skimmer for all your nitrification and denitrification purpose. Anyway my sandbed is between 3-4" deep and can see bubbles in the sandbed.. its good enough for denitrification purpose...

seeing bubbles in the sandbed does not necessarily means denitrification is taking place. it may well be algae growth as well, giving off the bubbles u see (which i think is oxygen, etc) as a by-product. IMHO, i still feel if u wanna go for DSB, start from at least 4" to play safe.

Yeah, i agree, might as well go for 4" if u already have 3", despite all the hazards of a possible DSB crashing, many people still use it with good success...

Due to sponsorship from my dad, i decided to do a little modifications to the equipments that im getting.. so i should just go for 1-2" ssb. i'll just depend on my LR for filtration purpose and DSB in my refugium ###### sump. can anyone explain to me more about how the sump/refugium shld be constructed? i saw blueheaven's sump setup and i dont really quite understand how is it working. thanks.

Just a suggestion before the tang police gets to you, an AT will need much more space than a 2' tank.

my tank may end up to be a 3ft tank.. so the tang is optional in a sense. dont worry i wont torture my livestocks. heh
