SRC Member patrick123 Posted October 7, 2004 Author SRC Member Share Posted October 7, 2004 Thanks. Anyone know if this is hard to keep? What to feed it?
SRC Member flubberina13 Posted October 7, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted October 7, 2004 It's also called the Maiden's Hair Fern. Need moderate lights and flow. Once it turns white, it's dying and you have to discard it. Unless you can snip off that part.
SRC Member patrick123 Posted October 7, 2004 Author SRC Member Share Posted October 7, 2004 Thanks. Since it is plant, I assume don't need to feed anything and just put under moderate light.

vincegoh
Fishes don't eat this turtle grass due to it slight toxic nature. A good plant to have around if you have tangs. I find it quite nice thought it is kind of expensive. Anyone know the cheapest place to get it?
SRC Member Marineman Posted October 8, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted October 8, 2004 Can some one help with the name? What does it need to stay healthy? Thanks, Patrick Chlorodesmis AKA Turtle Weed or Maiden's Hair as identified by other members. Very gorgeous and beautiful bright geen in colour, resistant to herbivory due to its noxious inhibitory exudations. Prefers brisk water movements and very bright light like MH over shallow water. Unfortunately it is difficult to keep as its extreme needs for husbandry (nitrates) are incompatible to most corals commonly kept. They usually wane within months in a casual display due to its specialised needs. Can be a pest if too prevalent, but otherwise useful for nutrient uptake and as food. Above extracted from "Reef Invertebrates" by Fenner & Calfo, excellent book, one of the best there is on inverts. I used to have one for a few months, it will turn white and regrow again and again, when it's botak, the tangs will nip at it, after a while it stay botak forever. I had no success and still do not know it's requirements. I suppose it's nitrates!
