the horizontal line is 15inches...

the vertical line is 20 inches...in case you are thinking of inserting it into the sump at an angle first and then mount the collection cup

the flexibility of buying outsump skimmers is that you can use it insump if u have the space and height clearance in the sump...

whereas buying insump skimmers means you die die have to use it insump watsoever....that's why the manufacturers also charge abit more for the same model external version compared to internal sump ones
