Sunburst ( Fathead ) Anthias

Recommended Posts

Sunburst/Fathead Anthias are basically cave delling fishes, which means you wont be seeing them most of the time.

Definitely not an easy fish to keep especially if you have larger or more aggressive fish like tangs/damsels etc as they will be stressed by them swimming around.

Not mentioning their very picky eating habits which is the main reason why tend to die so easily.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers

Thanxs bro.... got myself 2 of those sunburst anthias, they seem okay for now, swimming out and den after a while, hiding and swimming out again, but so far, not really eating, only a bite here and there, trying out the cyclopeeze now..... Can actually see that they are gaining more courage, only been in my tank about 5 days....

Skimmer should be effective enough, juz dat I dun wish to overfeed as I'm trying very hard to keep the nutrient load as low as possible ( for SPS  ) But I tink the water is pretty clean, coz the skimmer seems to skim non-stop.... :)

Anyway, wish me luck!!!!

People do not plan to fail; Often they just fail to plan...

Wat I do to prevent myself from tearing my hair out... My stress remedy...

Only other more agressive anthias will bully fathead. My pair of over 2 years often has broken fins but usually recover in a week or two. Initially, I feed them live BBS and slowing add in MS (small pieces) in the live BBS. Overtime, they will bit the MS. Now, Mine takes frozen MS like nothing and don't even bother with BBS.

One point to note. I did not release them into main tank until their eating habit is established. If go in tank straight, they will be too afraid to even start eating, esp my tank got fierce truncate. Now, I'm weaning my princess anthias.

Big one is over 5cm and small one about 3 cm. This pics is 1 year ago.
