You can achieve lesser micro bubbles by using filter sock....heck....if no money just use a clean sock of yours.....must be clean ah.....not the one U just took off.:lol:

But there's one set back.....the water level might just be affected & U need to monitor this often...if not overflow. Then U face problems like sock get dirty quickly.

If U want to use sock then you must make sure that the outlet hose is hanging at a distance from the sump water level the U fix the sock slightly immersed in water but rest assured that there will some micro bubbles ....definitely lesser than before.

Try lah.....don shy......

IMO, the noisy sound of the needlewheel is caused by the gushing sound drawing into the narrow air-intake valve (by simple physics, like if u blow into a straw, it will oso create a noise. ;) ) So to reduce the noise, just add diffusers to the other end of the air tube.

RockLobster, for ur info, I used 2 air diffusers to muffle the noise. The air diffusers I used are from the powerheads I purchased which have a air tube for the venturi effect. My air diffusers inside contains cotton wool, so I think it is the cotton wool that actually helps to muffle the noise.

cheers.
