Bought my skimmer from one of the sales here...been running the macro needlewheel skimmer for my wife's tank (think AS150 model).

Find that the spinning sound of the needlewheel very loud and unbearable....any suggestions what I should do besides offline the skimmer.....

Really need some help here. Thanks

In my case the last time, the space between the impeller and the "shaft plug (the rubber part placed at the end of the ceramic shaft)" was a factor. Too big a spacing will lead to the noise when the magnet rotates.

Always something more important than fish.

Just got my AS150 yesterday.. the noise is driving me nuts! :pinch:

I'll go back and check the impeller, but if the noise still persists, any other suggestions?

Thanks for any advise.

Hi I oso bought a AS150 recently. Whe i first set it up, it oso has a terrible noise. I just fix a air diffusser at the end of the rubber tube for air intake and now is as silent as it never exist!...

I've got the 100 model and the noise is terrible. do you have a pic of the air diffusier? where can we purchase it and how much would it cost? do you attach the air diffusier to the skinny hose that lets out air?

Hey! Great minds think alike! I also tried that last nite.

I used those cheapo 50 cent round air diffuser, but think only reduce the noise by 50%.

What kinda air-diffuser you're using? the Sander kind?

Another thing I want to ask is; "how do I reduce the big bubbles from gushing down the output pipe"?

Please advise :)

reducing macro/micro bubbles from outflow pipes can be acieved with the usage of a baffle, e.g. filter floss, filter sock, etc. but this often means regular maintenance to prevent detritus,NO3 build up 2.

All needlewheel pump creates noises that ordinary pump doesn't.

Mine is the AS300. Initially I didn't use the diffuser or silencer & the sound can be heard even afterclosing the sump cabinet door. After fixing ...no problem.

The pics shown by bro Moxa also can achieve a slightly silent sound.

I bought it few months back. it was suppose to use together with airpump tube. packing throw away long time. so dun know the name.

working something like prevent water flow back to the airpump from the air stone....

Bro RockLobster mentioned about air-diffuser so I just give it a try.

I bought it as a pair at Boon Lay Jurong Point Pet Station. (hanging at display shelve behind the register counter)

cost about $2.80 a pair

It does not compelety slient the sound as bro Archilles19 mentioned

Trick is to put the correct way (see picture) but you have to juggle and bring the water level height to correct level. My advice to start with lower the water level all the way down then fix it the gadget and slowly adjust the waterlevel up. Too fast you will get fountain. Carefull especailly if you hangs your skimmer out tank.

cheers

just connect a wooden airstone to the intake tube and it will be silent.

I tried putting some polyfilter into the water outlet hose; but there's still "big" bubbles coming out. :(

I think it has to do with the little air intake at the water outlet hose where it connects to the water outlet (I'm just reading the names from the instruction manual).

Any other advice from the bros who are using ASP-150?
