I always advocate the blanching of veggies before feeding our fish...you never know what stuff are used in growing them. So washing doesn't really help since we dun cook them for our pets' consumption. :P

Condolences on your loss... :(

feed them with something from the sea not the market .when did you ever see pan cai in the sea??????????? feed them with algae la .

it is proven that tangs can eat pang cai and other market vege...just that prolly our friend here did not fully remove the pesticide...

giving them a variety of food will be best so that they can get the most range of nutritient...

Ya, i had read Flabberina's thread sometimes ago abt advocating the blanching of veggies before feeding our fish. But...but forgot to put it into practice. Resulting, in the dead of 2 beautiful fish. Hopefully, a timely wake up call for all hobbyist to take the advice of fellow reefers' comments/points seriously from now on.

Flabberina, u r right afterall. :thanks:

I realized that after putting in "sio pai cai" in the tank for the last 2 weeks, my sohal started having diarrea. Yes, it is true. And the sohal getting more and more skinny. Now, I changed to just feeding them nori, the sohal is recovering. No more market vege for my fish.

Pardon my ignorance.....what do you mean by "advocate the blanching"

I usually just wash them by rubbing the branch and left under running tap water........so far so good and my sailfin, naso & blue tang just love it....

And now I have another name to my nick...:lol::lol:

Maybe I flabber a lot or maybe just the flab... :P

Yup...terry is right in the blanching principle. :)

Anyway, if you dun blanch, there is also a type of veggie washer in market. A couple of drops is all it takes to rid your veggies off whatever undesirable pesticides. A bit costlier than normal dishwashing liquid but a bottle should last quite a period. :)
