need some help. :o

i am using three "Theben" 24 hours timers - one for the T5, one for the first MH and another for the second MH.

the first timer (for T5) is working well. switched on 30 minutes in the morning for feeding, and then 9 hours from late afternoon till midnight.

however the second and third timers are misbehaving. one day it is working well in that it switch on from late afternoon till close to midnight. then the next day, once it switched on, it never switches off after that. i woke up this morning at around 3.00 am and the lights are still on.

this is frustrating, i guess even for the fishes and corals. :cry2:

please help me with your comments. perhaps i am doing something that is not correct. :thanks:

This happens due to the magnetising of the MH coil.... (somehting along this line) ** forgotten what i was taught in poly

Causes the contacts of the timer to "stick" together.

You can solve this by running a contactor to power up the MH instead.

Timer control contactor , contactor control MH

Pardon my ignorance, but whats a conductor? And where can I get one?

I have the same problem with nautical- I worry that when I leave for hols my 400w fail to switch off.

It's contactor Not conductor... ;)

It's a power relay. Used for high amp equipment, normally used for motors as they have strong magnetic currents. :P

You can easily find the contactors at SLT basement or level 3. Search around, Do not need the very high amps model.. more costly.

For me I'm using the 4Kw model

**This is just an example of a contactor.

There are lots of model and brands. Mine is made in Indonesia... cheap :P

Look for one that has a coil voltage for 230-240V. And a rating of abt 4KW

Contact A1 and A2 is for control of the coil. Please make sure you know what you are wiring before you switch on the power supply....

:evil::evil: Safety is everyone's responsibility :evil::evil:

Wire at your own risk
