SRC Member weisoon Posted September 29, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted September 29, 2004 Its been 20 years since I passed my driving/theory and there are some issues me and my friends brought up for discussion and hope reefers (best if you are from the traffic police) here can provide some answers: 1. Can a lorry/goods vehicle drive on the right lane of a 2 lane one direction traffic even the left lane is empty? The road is on 70 kmph limit. Can he also do that if the raod speed limit is 60kmph? 2. During a traffic jam on a 4 lane expressway, with a breakdown/accident vehicle on lane 4 which is the extreme left lane and due to heay traffic, all vehicle speeds will be at most 60 kmph, can a lorry/goods vehicle travel on lane 1 which is the extreme right lane? SRC Member corrado Posted September 29, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted September 29, 2004 hi, Is someone in trouble with the TP? Any TP will prefer you to do below 60 and on the extreme left lane. I always do 65-70, one hand on wheel, eyes for white riders, cars under highway bridge and photographers in blue. Any thing beyond you are at their mercy. Good luck. SRC Member jc85 Posted September 29, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted September 29, 2004 All lorrys and vans should have speed limits of 60km/hr in Singapore regardless of road condition. optimus prime
the rule is lorry or heavy vehicles should NEVER drive on right lanes. unless ONLY over taking.no matter road jam, butter or margerine, stick to the left lane.
SRC Member weisoon Posted September 29, 2004 Author SRC Member Share Posted September 29, 2004 Ai yah, Wei Soon.....after driving for so long, don't you know lorries have their own rules of the road? You were right that they have their own set of rules. But because friend and I were in a jam on the expressway and we saw this big lorry, those that were used to ferry granite, driving on the extreme right lane! and at that time the max speed on the most right lane is about 60 kmph. Friend said that he is keeping to the speed limit specific to his vehicle type but I think otherwise.

SRC Member minsmarine Posted September 29, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted September 29, 2004 Two issues On Expressway, Highway, No matter what Lane 1 is to over take and Lane 2 is for driving. Mean if you are caught speeding say 99 on lane 1 and if you can prove you are taking over car, u r safe. Cuse Lane 1 is for overtanking. And if you are driving below speed limit , you are supposed to use Lane 3 and left. City Road, Assuming 2 Lane Lane 1 is for take over however in traffic cong, Lane 1 became drive lane. Car's speedlimit is different from Road Regulation. In your case, seem to be that you are right. Me not from TP Quote Life is like a peice of Uncured Live Rock [ from LFS ], you never know what you gonna get......... Ocean Gump

terryansimon
extreme right lane on highway is meant for overtaking and faster vehicles. if you are there and there is a vehicle who is travelling faster than you and/or the speed limit, you MUST move over to let him through. if not, you are hogging the road and if I'm not mistaken, road hogging is also an offence. vehicles with a sticker label that states 60km/h must stick to the extreme left lane. basically, that lane is for slow vehicles ONLY. which is why most of your exits, save the Dunearn Road exit from PIE towards Tuas, are on the left. because you have to slow down before you leave the expressway. if road travelled on is four carriageway, centre two lanes are for "normal" driving, with the second lane from the right being the best for cars. above was what was taught to me when I was learning driving at BBDC.
