Hi. I moving my existing tank to my new home. The question is where to put my fishes? Got 4 angels, 3 clowns, i shrimp and 1 unknown fish. If i put them in a big pail, how long can its last?

Understand that i should never upset the sand in the sump, right???

any advise is most welcome!

You will need more pails! 2 angels per pail will last half a day without problems. All the clowns can go into one and the unknown fish can go into another pail with shrimp if you can separate the shrimp in a small container with holes. Get a bottle of Seachem Prime and dose according to instructions. It will help the fish last longer.

If it is a DSB in the sump, try your best not to stir it too much. If it is for aerobic bacteria then no worries.

The last time I used basins they have a tendency to jump out. I prefer half-filled buckets. If a basin is used, netting or eggcrate should be placed over them. Buckets are easier to carry, the water in basins sloshes around when I move them and it just drenches me.

Thinking of leaving the fishes in number of pail with air pump for at least 2 days! is it safe?

Cos I got to take out the DSB sand from the main tank before transporing cause too heavy. Advisable?

The sand in the sump will not be disturb cause not too heavy.

If it is for 2 days then it's best that you get basins or tubs to hold the fish separately. Have air pumps handy. Change water everyday if possible, if not use Seachem Prime. Watch the salinity carefully as it will rise quickly when there is so little water in a tub. Don't feed the fish. 6 months ago when my tank had a wipeout, I was left with 3 fish so I put them in a 2 foot tank without feeding for a week while I worked and overhauled the main tank. Daily 50% water change plus Seachem Prime.
