Potassium iodide is the white potassium soluble under strong cooling very easily in water - salt of the hydriodic acid . It develops with the reaction of caustic potash solution with iodine :

6 KOH + 3 I 2 ? 5 AI + KIO 3 + 3 H 2 O

By glowing of the iodide iodine RK mixture with coal also the Kaliumjodat (KIO 3 ) can be reduced to potassium iodide :

KIO 3 + 3 C? 2 AI + + 3 CO 2

Potassium iodide is used in the laboratory for the production of iodine potassium iodide solution (Lugol' solution ). It serves also for the production of silver iodide and for the production of pharmaceuticals. Jodiertes food salt contains potassium iodide.

Potassium iodide has also in the radiation protection a meaning. In the form of tablets potassium iodide is preventing given in jet accidents. It sets off in the thyroid and prevents thereby an admission of radioactive iodine isotopes.

Scarab...I am still learning from you and I definitely dont have the discipline like you :whistle

The pics looked a little off when skewd...so I thought I'll post some of them here for you guys to look at. One thing I learnt from this experience, the acros looked totally stunning and different when viewed from the top :yeah:

Won't it be too hot and severely increase your chiller run time since it is submerge??? :o

Sorry ah DB, borrow your thread. :)
