Reef Lighting

Hi all,

I am think of upgrading my current tank lighting (flourscent blue and white tubes) with something stronger and useful for my reef tank.

Tank size = 3ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft with fishes and corals.

I also have a chiller.

Should I just not be fussy and stick to my current lighting or move to something more effective. Some said MH is better but I guess I really would not know.

Please advise on the cost, nos of lights required. Any LFS having a good deal for such lights??

It all depends on what type of corals u keeping. LPS? SPS? Softies? Different species require different type of lightings. Some dont even need lights! So by telling us what u intending to keep will help alot!

150watts cannot color up the acros....unless u want brown acros.

u can have the choie of t5 if ur tank is only 1.5ft height. fit plenty of thems...

sorry bro, but this time round, i gotta disagree. my sps do color up by using 2x150W and 4xT5s. but my tank only 1 ft depth left after deducting sandbed la and i place most of my sps on the top. nevertheless, i think 2x250W will do even better in coloring up sps. of coz other parameters need to be taken into consideration too.

maybe ur t5 is helping with the coloration..... but i guess ur growth is very slow...

Dr-evil DIY'ed 8x T5 39Watts should work well.

Total Watts is 312watts leow.

No heat problem.

250 Watts, are you referring to blue light?

And can that 250 be summed up with a few T5? or are you referring to a tube only?
