Film on water.

Hello everyone,

I notice that there's a film on the surface of my water. Is this what they call organic waste? Oh ya, must I have a surface skimmer to remove it?

ya... but usually, the overflow does the work... and also if your skimmer is good enough, the film won't form ... i don't know if circulation would help though.. maybe u can try?

that's dirt that collected on the surface when it is a dead spot or there is no overflow

But there is water movement. Maybe its the dust because my tank is not covered. Tried my best to remove it when changing water but there are still some left.

Is the water movement near the surface of the water? I just keep my return near to the surface so that there is enough movement on the surface.

I had the same problem previously...I think it is some kind of organic waste or some cynobacteria or algae. mine was dark reddish purple. used a surface skimmer and some phosguard by seachem and they disappeared!! good luck

If the debit of you overflow is good, you should have no problems.

oil layer built up... can use surface skimmer.

It is easy to remove it! Just switch off the power head or pump so there is no more movement on the surface. Put a few pieces of newspaper on top and the newspaper would remove all the films away.

yep... or paper towels... dab away the layer.
