Hi,

anyone has comments on what if we put heated wire coils under the DSB? (In planted tanks, dennerle has wired heaters that cos plants to grow better with heated subtrates... Do you thing the bacterias will grow better in heated DSBs?? hehe ... just a thought...

What about those areas where there are volcanic lavas... where extreme hot and cold meets... guess we can never do that kind of setups... but I have seen documentaries where est tube worms live best in these very hot, Hydrogen-sulfuric areas.... anyway... guess no one puts a heater under a DSB... just a thought! :)

idea...

keep the sandbed warm... at the optimal level for the enzymes in the bacterias to work... raising the temperature will raise the basal metabolic rate of the bacteria thus increasing it's rate of nutrition and conversely reducing the ANN at a faster rate... Wow good idea... wonder if anyone is using this idea.. but it's hard to maintain an even spread of heat throughout the sandbed though... maybe some heating coil in the sandbed can be used... good idea.. definitely can build on it...

If the DSB can be maintained warm, the bacteria will work optimally and much faster thus reducing the nutrient level in the tank... using a chiller to chill the tank water will ensure the fishes have low metabolic rate and don't produce too much waste... Think by maintaining this, nutrient level will be brought down to minimum! think abt it... could work...

warm sandbed =

increased metabolic rate of bateria which will bring about:

1) rapid growth of the bacteria, meaning that they will repoduce faster and thus reducing cycling period

2)work more efficiently and quickly as they would need to feed more and thus creating a more effective DSB

What can work now, can work better.. thats why you need innovative and creative minds in the fields of R&D.. If everyone has that "why bother, since it's already working" attitude, no new and better products will be produced.

It might work. But you got to know the optimal temperature by which the enzymes (found in denitrification bacteria) will work at. If the temperature exceeds the optimal temperature, denitrification might be hindered instead.

Always something more important than fish.

hmm... have to re setup the whole tank for that... just thought that it is a good concept that can be built on further... it would be a problem maintaining equal spread of heat throught the DSB... probably some large entensive heating coil system could be put in place to do the job..

They do this for planted tanks. Dennerle has this type of product. B)
