Assexual macroalgae.. Pls help!!!

Hi all, juz noticed dat some of branches of my caluerpa has turned white, I tried snipping off all the white parts with scissors, can it still be saved? or do I need to throw everything away??

when they go assexual they will have many tiny long growths protruding from it all around where the expell the gametes from. just snip off all parts that has these... keep them trimmed. Just make sure that the remaining bunch is green and healthy without the tubes forming... When you see them decolourise, it usually signifies that they are going to go assexual very soon. they will form the tubes that I mentioned above and release their gametes.

a bit like puss heads sticking out of an ugly pimple.

just prune the white-ish ones away and throw them away. the white ones will also probably be the elder part of the plant. so throw it away, and let the newer shoots grow again.

sexual means the release of gametes.

asexual means they die off. which is what is happening to you right now..

am I right Fuel?

assexual means they reproduce through vegetative propagation and not through release of any gametes... they won't die off if they remain assexual... Remaining assexual means they reproduce assexually.. whereas dying off.. well... is dying off..
