Methods of getting rid of diatoms.

Erm, can anyone advise me on getting rid of diatoms in da tank? Recently, my 3by2by2ft tank had some brown coloured film growing on some parts of my rockworkand thus I believe its daitoms.My nitrate reding is 5 n my phosphate reading appears to be 0(test kit prob?)

Anyway, please advise me.

I think putting in turbo snails will help. Did that last time and it worked.

If you get turbo snails...take note they may knock down your corals when they grow bigger.

I suggest getting the mexican turbo snails. Small and compact but equally good.

The blue signboard shop usually has loads of them.

Use DI/RO water for long term solution

Give those chemicals a miss

Seachem's phosguard did the job for me ..... just bear with the diatoms for awhile and they will disappear when your water ages.

but i think phosphates come from feeding as well so even using RO/DI will not completely eliminate it, just reduce it somewhat.
